Feb. 23, 2008
Men's track and field student-athlete Jonathan Jackson and women's tennis player Anna Sydorska are TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week. The Gulliver's Road Warrior of the Week award has been given to women's track and field athlete Neidra Covington.
Jackson posted an NCAA automatic leap of 16.24m (53-03.50) in the men's triple jump to place third overall at the Tyson Invitational. The senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, is currently ranked first in the Mountain West Conference for this jump and has the lone automatic mark set in the triple jump. Jackson's jump is currently the second best leap in the nation and ranked in the top-100 in the world. He broke Brandal Lawrence's previous school record of 15.85m (52-4.75) set in 2002.
Sydorska posted a combined record of 4-0 last week as TCU went 2-0, including a win over No. 28 Texas A&M. She was paired with Macail Harkins as the 18th-ranked doubles duo who made several comebacks against the Aggies, including a run from being down 6-3 in the tiebreaker to take the match, 9-8 (7). The junior from Lviv, Ukraine, defeated Texas A&M's Tiffany Clifford in straight sets to put TCU up 3-2 in the match.
Covington, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla., finished first in the women's long jump with an NCAA provisional mark of 6.13m (20-01.50) at the Tyson Invitational. She followed by placing seventh overall in the women's triple jump championships by soaring 13.11m (43-00.25). Covington broke her previous school record of 13.05 with this jump. Her personal best mark in the triple jump is currently her second-consecutive NCAA provisional and top mark in the Mountain West Conference.
