Notes On A Scorecard

SPANNING THE GLOBE
Greetings from Kansas City and the Big 12 athletics directors' meeting. We're having very productive discussions regarding our soon-to-be new home. There's great camaraderie and excitement among our league counterparts in regards to TCU entering the Big 12. This will be a travel-packed week as I'll soon be headed to Las Vegas to see our men's and women's basketball programs at the Mountain West Championships, in addition to our men's golf team playing in a tournament there, before making my way to Columbus, Ohio, to support our rifle program at the NCAA Championships.
SEAT SELECTION TIMES DISTRIBUTED
The 2012 football seat selection dates and times were emailed Friday and sent via U.S. mail yesterday. If you did not receive an email, please call the reseating hotline at (817) 257-SEAT (7328) for your seat selection date and time. Seat selections for 2011 season-ticket holders will begin Monday, March 12, and continue through mid-May.
VIRTUAL AMON G. CARTER STADIUM READY
The virtual Amon G. Carter Stadium is live online and can be accessed by 2011 season-ticket holders with their account number and PIN at the following LINK. Regardless of your seat selection method (online, in person or phone), we encourage everyone to become familiar with the system and the seat options, so the process is fair and runs smoothly for all season-ticket holders when it is your time to select.
All of us at TCU very much appreciate the great support you provide our athletics teams. The latest example was this past weekend. Daniel-Meyer Coliseum was truly rocking Saturday night for our men's basketball game versus San Diego State. The student turnout was tremendous. Many of you told me it was the loudest you've ever heard the DMC. That atmosphere was hopefully just a precursor of what to expect next year in the Big 12. We also had nearly 14,000 in attendance for our three-game baseball series with Oklahoma State. We still rank in the top 10 nationally in baseball attendance and No. 1 among private schools. It was also special, while baseball was being played next door, to see over 500 fans at Friday night's men's tennis victory over Arizona.
Interior framing continues at a rapid pace on the Walsh Complex renovation. Our new hydrotherapy area in the sports medicine center now has its foundation and walls in place. Work continues on the east side of Amon G. Carter Stadium with more steel arriving and the installation of some of the east side seating tubs.
FACES IN THE CROWD
Make sure to pick up a copy of Sports Illustrated this week to see TCU long jumper Whitney Gipson featured in "Faces in the Crowd." Here's a link to the PIECE. Whitney is the South Central Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The USTFCCCA also tabbed Darryl Anderson as the Women's Head Coach of the Year with Nic Petersen the Assistant Coach of the Year.
ON THE DOCKET
It's Championship Week at TCU. Our top-ranked rifle team is at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, men's and women's basketball is in Las Vegas at the Mountain West Championships, while our indoor track and field program will be sending Whitney Gipson (long jump), Lorraine Ugen (long jump), Charles Silmon (60 meters) and Chaniqua Corinealdi (60 meters) to the NCAA Championships in Boise. Both of our golf programs will be in action this weekend with the men in Las Vegas and the women in Baton Rouge, La. Baseball concludes its stretch of seven straight home games versus Big 12 opponents when it hosts Texas Tech in a three-game series at Lupton Stadium. Friday's opener is at 6:30 p.m. with first pitch Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Women's tennis will also be home Sunday at noon versus Marquette.
DRIVING IN STYLE
We have another ranking on our hands. We currently have the fourth-best selling license plate for Texas colleges and universities. One of our corporate partners is MyPlates.com, the specialty license plate vendor for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. As of March 1, Texans have purchased 232 TCU plates to raise more than $27,000 for TCU. If you are interested in an official TCU license plate, please visit the following SITE.
AN AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST
If you're one of our many corporate partners, you might not know that Rudy Klancnik, assistant vice president/general manager of TCU Sports Network/IMG College is also an award-winning journalist. Rudy writes a column, the MANifesto, for Fort Worth Child. His work was recognized recently at the Parenting Media Association Awards. Congratulations Rudy!
FROGS AROUND THE WORLD
Below is Jake Hoselton from Phoenix, Ariz. He'll be a freshman at TCU next year. Please send me photos of yourself, family, loved ones or friends displaying TCU. We'll start a weekly series showing people worldwide wearing TCU with pride.
All coaches are required to provide all student-athletes with days off. The rule varies depending on whether the team is in season or out of season. During the playing season, all countable athletically related activities are prohibited during one calendar day per week. The exceptions to this are during participation in one conference and postseason championship, any postseason licensed bowl games, National Invitational Tournaments and during participation in NCAA championships. Coaches are not required to provide a day off during preseason practice that occurs prior to the first day of classes or first scheduled contest (whichever is earlier). A travel day may be considered a day off as long as no countable athletically related activities occur.
