Notes On A Scorecard
April 20, 2011
Congratulations to head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin and our women's golf program on their Mountain West Conference championship. We were down three shots entering Saturday's final round and won by five strokes. Kudos to Angie as well on being named the MWC Coach of the Year for the second straight season. We also had the Freshman of the Year in Sanna Nuutinen and three all-conference selections in Sanna, Brooke Beeler and Melissa Loh.
The suite level foundation at Amon G. Carter Stadium is currently being framed with concrete pouring. Steel rakers for the 200 level seating will start installing next week with the concrete "tubs," similar to the north end zone, to follow. The foundation for our new weight room is going in this week. This is a big step with some walls and steel to follow.
Just for clarification from last week, season-ticket holders in 2011 will have top priority on season tickets for the 2012 campaign when we begin Big East Conference play and have home football games with Oklahoma and Virginia.
IMPORTANT FROG CLUB NEWS
Frog Club members should note the May 15 deadline for season ticket and parking renewals. The Frog Club and our athletics ticket office have experienced an overwhelming renewal response in anticipation of the 2011 football season. John Denton and his Frog Club staff are standing by to answer any questions you may have about your parking assignment. Call the Frog Club at (817) 257-7700 for assistance.
CLUB SEATS GOING FAST
We're nearing 2,000 club seats being sold for the 2012 season. Remember, we only have 2,300 club seats available. Per seat down payments of $500 will continue to be accepted through May 15. If you have any questions on club seats, our Frog Club office (817-257-7700) and TCU associate athletics director Davis Babb (firstname.lastname@example.org or 817-257-5658) can assist you. Please check with Davis as well if you're interested in purchasing one of our remaining suites.
Thanks for making our online store quite the popular place to shop. Through the first quarter of the 2011 calendar year, we rank second nationally behind only Auburn in online store revenue. Rounding out the top five are Kansas, Alabama and Oklahoma.
We very much appreciate everyone who submitted questions and participated in last Friday's online chat on GoFrogs.com. It was fun, and I hope you found it informative and helpful in bringing you closer to our program. We'll likely make this a once-a-month feature for you on our website.
BASEBALL ON THE TUBE
Our Friday, May 8, baseball game at Oklahoma State will be televised nationally on Fox College Sports. Combined with our student productions on The Mtn., the game at Oklahoma State just adds to what we believe is already the best television package for any college baseball team in the country.
ON THE AIRWAVES
The season debut of baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle's radio show is tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. on 88.7 KTCU-FM. The show will air live from Buffalo Bros. right across University Drive from our campus.
We have reached a record 100 birthday parties held at Lupton Stadium this spring. The birthday boys and girls (and men and women) encompass all ages. If you are interested in holding a birthday celebration at one of our nine remaining home baseball games, please contact our athletics marketing office at (817) 257-7969.
ON THE HOME DOCKET
Tonight is Senior Night for our women's tennis program as we host Midwestern State at 6 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Please make note that this weekend's three-game home baseball series with UNLV will begin Thursday night. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. for Thursday and Friday night with a 12 noon start for Saturday's series finale.
It was great to see many of you at Sunday's home men's tennis match with UNLV. Over the course of the afternoon, we had approximately 1,000 folks pass through. With the music, free tacos from Salsa Limon and appetizers from Silver Fox, there couldn't have been a better atmosphere for a match anywhere in the country. The Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center was one of Fort Worth's most-popular gathering places that afternoon. We also posted a nice 6-1 victory over the nationally-ranked Rebels. A special tip of the cap to David Roditi, our new men's tennis coach, in building tremendous community support for his program.
TCU will be well represented at tonight's National Football Foundation's Gridiron Club of Dallas annual awards banquet at Cowboys Stadium. Gary Patterson will be honored with the prestigious Distinguished Texan Award, while wide receiver Bart Johnson will be recognized as TCU's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
ON THE LINKS
Friday is the sold-out Charles Coody Classic at Texas Star Golf Club in Euless. I look forward to seeing you there. Make sure to also mark Saturday, May 14, on your calendar for the Lettermen's Association End-of-the-Year Meeting and Annual Celebration.
