May 26, 2009
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Freshman baseball pitcher Kyle Winkler and senior tennis standout Anna Sydorska earn Athlete of the Week honors for their outstanding performances this past week for the Horned Frogs.
Winkler, a hard-throwing right-hander from Sugar Land, Texas, earned his first career complete game in a 9-2 victory to stave off elimination against BYU in the Conoco Mountain West Conference Championships. Winkler moved to 6-0 with the victory and lowered his earned-run average to 4.33. He has 42 strikeouts in 60 innings this season and has proved to be one of the Frogs most consistent starting pitchers.
Anna Sydorska, along with doubles partner Macall Harkins, advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2009 NCAA Doubles Championship with a straight-set win over Florida's Nationally ranked pairing of Jessica Alexander and Anastasia Revzina. The victory held extra significance for Sydorska, who earned sole possession of the TCU career doubles record with her 106th victory. The Lviv, Ukraine product tied the program's all-time standard during the Frogs' NCAA second-round matchup with Arkansas, officially moved past former record holder Lori Nelson. The trip was also the senior's third-straight NCAA Doubles Championship appearance.
