Cragin, Harkins, Sydorska and Derrey earn weekly TCU Athletics Awards
May 28, 2008
Taylor Cragin was cited as the TCU Male Athlete of the Week while Macall Harkins and Anna Sydorska were selected as the Co-Female Athletes of the Week and Valentine Derrey garnered Gulliver's Travel Road Warrior of the Week honors - which were announced on Wednesday (May 28).
Cragin - a junior pitcher from Friendswood, Texas - appeared in a pair of games this past weekend for the Frogs as he recorded a 1-0 record. The TCU hurler tossed 5.1 innings of action where he allowed no runs to go along with five hits and one walk in the Purple and White's victory over the Lobos. Cragin also appeared in TCU's victory over UNLV where he hurled a perfect inning of action for the Frogs.
Harkins and Sydorska were selected as the Co-Female Athletes of the Week after the TCU teammates fell short of reaching the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis National Championships. The Frog duo posted an opening-round victory against Georgia Tech - who entered the contest ranked 27th in the country - but dropped their second match to third-seeded Notre Dame.
Harkins and Sydorska concluded the 2007-08 campaign with a 21-11 overall record to go along with a ranking of 18th in the nation.
Derrey was selected as the Gulliver's Travel Road Warrior of the Week after the TCU sophomore finished tied for 48th overall with a four-round score of 303 at the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championships. Derrey led the Frogs - who had three freshmen in the lineup - to a 17th-place finish at the national championships en route to marking their first back-to-back tournament appearances since the 1999 and 2000 campaigns.
Derrey - who received second team All-American honors from the National Golf Coaches Association of America - recorded a stellar final two rounds of action as the TCU sophomore finished with a two-over-par score.
