Floating Frog Fandango 2002
"Unbeeeeeelievable!" The Floating Frog Fandango is celebrating its tenth year of fun and sun. What started out as a TCU San Antonio Alumni Chapter event in 1992, has now become a yearly gathering of TCU Lettermen & Letterwomen, TCU Alumni, Ben E. Keith Foods co-workers, family, and friends. No matter what the affiliation, everyone welcomes the opportunity to enjoy a great day together.
Last year's Fandango marked the best attendance yet. Two "yellow dog" school buses shuttled the 60 plus floaters up river for a fun-filled day. The day was hot, the Guadalupe River & beverages were cold, and the bar-b-que was outstanding. A great day was had by all and we look forward to more floating fun this year.
Kevin Webb, head operations manager at Rockin R, forecasts another great outlook for tubing this year. Although it's been a dry spring, water levels in the Guadalupe River are expected to remain favorable for tubing all summer. Kevin and his gang at Rockin R have made the past trips a great experience and are a major contributor to the Fandango's is successful. Rockin R offers a wide variety of white water adventures worldwide. For and vacation experience of a lifetime, click on their site at www.rockinr.com.
So, get ready to Fandango! There's no better way to beat this Texas heat and relax with your friends. Pack your ice chest (no glass), put on some sunscreen, and get ready for a great day...New Braunfels style.
The Plan: Meet at the pavilion in Cypress Bend Park before 11am. A bus from Rockin R. will pick us up and take us up river to Gruene, where our tubes will be waiting. The float takes approximately 4 hours back to Cypress Bend Park. BBQ and beverages will be served upon our arrival.
Non-Floaters: For those who do not want to float, the New Braunfels area has plenty of fun activities. Antique shopping in Gruene, fine restaurants, the San Marcos Outlet Mall, Schlitterbahn Water Park, and Landa Park are all in close proximity. Check out www.newbraunfels.com for events and information. The pavilion at Cypress Bend Park has playground equipment, BBQ facilities, horseshoe pits, volleyball, and the river. Please stop by and enjoy the picnic around 5:00.
From San Antonio: Travel time to New Braunfels is typically 30 minutes. With the large amount of traffic going to Schlitterbahn, give yourself an hour head start. Take IH35N to exit 189 (Loop 337/Seguin exit). You will see Luby's on the right side. Take a left at the stoplight. Go to the third stoplight where you will see Rudy's BBQ on the right corner. Turn left on Common Street. Go approximately ? mile where you will cross the Guadalupe River. Go up the hill and take the first left, which is Peace Avenue. Go past the cemetery until Peace Ave. dead ends (no pun intended). Cypress Bend Park is on the left.
From North of New Braunfels: Take IH35S to exit 189 (Loop 337/Seguin exit). You will see McDonald's on the right. Take a right at the stoplight. Follow above directions to Common Street.
