Notes On A Scorecard
Aug. 1, 2012
REPORTING DAY HERE
Our football season tickets will be mailed Aug. 10. Like last year, several members of our athletics staff and I will make a few local home visits to personally deliver some tickets. We always look forward to this fun opportunity to meet many of you. Keep an eye out for us in the neighborhood.
PARKING PASS PICK-UP PARTIES
Reserved parking passes will be ready for pick up next Thursday and Friday, Aug. 9-10, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center. Please stop by and enjoy complimentary food and beverages while socializing with other Frog fans as we count down to the season opener! We do have a limited number of reserved parking passes still available. Please call our Frog Club office at (817) 257-7700 for more information.
PROMOTE YOUR BUSINESS WITH THE FROG CARD
The Frog Card is a unique opportunity for our local merchants to promote their business through TCU Athletics. Each year, over 7,000 TCU Frog Club members receive the Frog Card, which provides them with discounts to area merchants and free admission to select TCU sporting events. Frog Card merchants receive membership stickers for their businesses, recognition on the Frog Club website and social media platforms, distribution opportunities at TCU events and many other benefits. For more information on having your business included on this year's Frog Card, please call the Frog Club office at (817) 257-7700.
We very much appreciate the nearly 1,100 of you who have already completed our online Frog Club survey. The feedback provided is very helpful for us to learn how to better serve you. If you did not receive the survey and would like to complete it, please contact our Frog Club office at (817) 257-7700 and we'll be glad to send a copy.
There is one suite available on the west side of Amon G. Carter Stadium. Please touch base with our Frog Club office at (817) 257-7700 if you're interested and would like more information.
BIG 12 DAYS OF SUMMER
We have several upcoming events in our Big 12 Days of Summer. Next Friday, Aug. 10, Pappas Burger will offer $1 shakes with the purchase of a meal if you're wearing TCU-Big 12 gear.
SPANNING THE GLOBE
This week's edition of TCU images from around the world comes from Keith Glaser '92. His son, Brad, is a diehard Horned Frog fan. During their trip to Cooperstown, N.Y., for a baseball tournament, they took the following picture from the Brooklyn Bridge. Brad is playing travel baseball and soccer in Marietta, Ga., and hopes to one day play either sport for TCU.
The NCAA holds Bylaw 10.1 in high esteem. The majority of the 434-page NCAA manual (a book without pictures mind you) provides answers to specific, sometimes very specific, questions (e.g., When can a coach recruit? What is considered to be acceptable academic progress for a student-athlete? What types of snacks can be given to student-athletes?). Bylaw 10.1 is different. Through this bylaw, the NCAA makes a broad, overreaching statement about ethical behavior within college athletics. Cited in most major infractions cases, 10.1 addresses situations where an institution (coaches, student-athletes and staff) knows an activity is impermissible/unethical and chooses to act anyway. Bylaw 10.1 is the heart of the NCAA rules, placing the responsibility of ethical behavior squarely on the shoulders of all individuals within an athletics department.
Specific prohibitions of Bylaw 10.1 include: 1.) Academic fraud 2.) Lying to the NCAA or institution during a rules violations investigation 3.) Providing a banned substance to a student-athlete 4.) Arranging a meeting between a student-athlete and an agent 5.) Knowingly providing a prospect or current student-athlete an extra benefit.
Remember, always ask before you act! Please feel free to contact our Athletics Compliance Office at (817) 257-7525.
