Kull, Cohen Added to TCU Administrative Staff

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Director of Athletics Danny Morrison has announced the hiring of a pair of experienced administrators, Scott Kull and Mark Cohen, to the Horned Frog athletics staff. Kull will serve as associate director of athletics - external operations, while Cohen will be TCU's new director of athletics media relations.

At TCU, Kull will be responsible for overseeing the marketing, ticket office and media relations operations, as well as serving as the liaison to the ESPN Regional office. In addition, he will be the administrator for the sports of men's and women's golf, men's and women's swimming and men's and women's track & field.

"Scott is a critical hire for us," Morrison said. "His work has been recognized on the national level, and we're fortunate to bring him to TCU. Scott will continue to build on the excellent foundation and momentum provided under Kevin O'Connell's leadership. Not only will he bring a wealth of experience to his external responsibilities, but he will also have the opportunity to work directly as the lead administrator for several of our sports. We look forward to his arrival in mid-August."

Kull joins the Frog family after spending the previous seven years at Florida State University. For the past year, he held the position of assistant athletics director for marketing and general manager of Seminole athletics marketing. As the director of the Seminole athletics marketing office, Kull oversaw all aspects of advertising sales, promotions, tickets sales, corporate sponsorships and coaches' endorsements for the university's 19 sports.

Kull originally moved to Tallahassee in 1997 to become the director of athletics marketing. Two years later he was asked by FSU Director of Athletics Dave Hart to create a plan establishing a new partnership with Host Communications, one of the nation's leading collegiate sports marketing companies. In 1999, Kull was named the general manager of Host Communications and director of sales for Seminole athletics marketing. He was promoted to his current position during summer 2004.

Kull is recognized for his proven approach to implementing creative sales and promotional prospects. At Florida State, he sold the first collegiate football sideline headset deal with Alltel and oversaw the creation of Seminole Village, which provides fans with interactive entertainment at home games as well as additional opportunities for advertisers. Kull also developed a plan to add a state-of-the-art video board/scoreboard to Florida State's $10 million baseball stadium renovation project.

In the past two years alone, the Florida State marketing staff has earned 10 national sports marketing awards and has been responsible for increasing sales revenues by landing millions of dollars in athletic advertising contracts.

Prior to joining the FSU staff, Kull worked in the athletics marketing departments for several other nationally recognized universities, including Florida, Ohio State and Georgia Tech. He earned his bachelor's degree in business and organizational communications from Otterbein College, where he played football and was a member of the track & field team. The native of New London, N.H., earned his master's degree in sport management from The Ohio State University. Kull will assume his new job Aug. 15.

Cohen comes to TCU after working the past 16 years at Wofford College, an NCAA Division I institution located in Spartanburg, S.C., and a member of the Southern Conference. Cohen was hired as Wofford's sports information director in 1989 by Morrison, who was then the Terriers' athletics director. Cohen was promoted to assistant athletics director for media relations in January 1992 and to associate athletics director in September 1996.

After graduating from Cal State Fullerton in 1988, Cohen began his career in Texas as an assistant in the University of Houston sports information office. While employed with the Cougars, Cohen also worked in various game-day capacities with the Houston Astros, Houston Oilers and Houston Rockets.

While earning a B.A. degree in communications and a minor in business administration at Cal State Fullerton, Cohen served as the media relations director for the 1988 Titan baseball team which advanced to the College World Series.

"We are delighted to have Mark join the TCU family," Morrison said. "He started his professional career in Texas, and it's great to have him back in the state. After a national search, Mark emerged as the perfect fit for us. He is outstanding at developing relationships with media and has a very strong work ethic. Mark brings a lot to our program as we enter a new era in the Mountain West Conference."

Under Cohen's direction, Wofford's football media guide covers received "Best in the Nation" honors three times from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Terriers' football game program covers were also named "Best in the Nation" on three occasions. Cohen has received a total of 11 "Citations for Excellence in Publications."

"I am very excited about this tremendous opportunity at TCU," Cohen said. "The people I met on my visit and the athletic facilities on campus were most impressive. TCU is an outstanding place and I look forward to raising my family in the Fort Worth-Dallas area. Being able to work again with Danny Morrison is another positive aspect of this wonderful situation."

Cohen will begin his TCU duties Aug. 9. He will serve as the primary spokesperson for the TCU Athletics Department and will oversee the publicity efforts for each of the Horned Frogs' 19 sports. Cohen and his wife, Sarah, have three sons: David, 12; Adam, 10; and Steven, 6.
