ANOTHER SEASON IS HERE
It's that special time! Another academic and athletics year is upon us. Students are starting to arrive back, and it's been great to have campus housing set up this week in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena to assist them. Football is in its second week of camp, and our soccer and volleyball programs are also in the midst of preseason preparations.
In fact, a first opportunity to catch our 2017 volleyball team in action is Friday at 6 p.m. with our Purple and White Scrimmage. Admission is free at the Rec Center. We also have season tickets available. Just contact our Parrish Family Athletics Ticket Office at 817.257.FROG (3764).
Soccer officially opens our 2017-18 athletics campaign when it hosts ULM next Friday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m. Make sure to purchase your season tickets as well as soccer party packages that start at $150. Please contact 817.257.TICK (8425).
What a night for TCU in Canton last Saturday! It was phenomenal to have LaDainian Tomlinson enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and his speech stole the show! LT is such an incredible ambassador for our University, and we were honored to be part of his special weekend. That guy has the Horned Frogs Factor!
As I'm sure you noticed on our social media platforms and website, we knocked it out of the park with our coverage! Congrats to Kyle Seay, our social media specialist in Athletics, and Caten Hyde, our football program's social media coordinator, on a job well done!
Our "5 for 5" video series on LT documented a different stage of his life each day featuring guest narrators. Overall, our LT coverage generated 2.3 million impressions and nearly 400,000 video views. Over a three-week stretch, leading up to LT's induction, our Athletics and Football accounts combined for 108 posts on our three major social media platforms. No other school with a 2017 enshrinee had more than nine posts.
If you're a TCU student, CLICK HERE Saturday at 8 a.m. to begin requesting your football road game tickets. Please note the Aug. 31 deadline. An email has been distributed with more info.
KEY TICKET OFFICE NOTES
Men's and women's basketball season-ticket renewals have been sent out and should be hitting your mailboxes any day now, if not already. Football season tickets will arrive next week.
FROGS DOWN UNDER
We hope you've been setting the alarm early these last few days to follow our men's and women's basketball programs as they are enjoying a special combined trip to Australia. Both programs have played well with wins in their opening two games.
STREET BANNERS UP
If you've been making your way around Fort Worth, you might have noticed our street banners, featuring head coach Gary Patterson and select football student-athletes, are now up.
MEET THE FROGS
Please mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 26, for our annual Meet The Frogs with our football student-athletes and head coach Gary Patterson. This year's event will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility.
WELCOME COACH BUSCH!
Please join me in welcoming Sam Busch to our TCU family as our new head swimming and diving coach! Sam replaces Richard Sybesma who retired after a phenomenal 38-year career. Sam comes to us from Virginia. He served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator the last four years, helping lead the Cavaliers to a No. 1 national ranking and three consecutive ACC Championships.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Edition's Answer: It was Lieutenant Frank Drebin, played magnificently by comedic genius Leslie Nielsen, in The Naked Gun who said, "It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girl dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day."
This Edition's Quote: "I haven't had a carb since 2004."
Break Away is a junior prospect being recruited by the Ocean State University (OSU) Women's Soccer coaches. Per the recruiting legislation, the OSU coaches are permitted to have contact with Break as of July 1 following his junior year in high school. Unfortunately, Break did not perform very well academically and will be required to repeat his junior year, as directed by the school board. Since he has to repeat his junior year, are the coaches permitted to have contact with Break as of July 1?
Yes with conditions. NCAA Staff Interpretation - 9/27/13 - Contact with a Prospective Student-Athlete who Repeats Junior Year (I) - states that, in sports other than basketball, off-campus, in-person contact may be made with a prospective student-athlete beginning July 1 (subject to recruiting calendar restrictions) following completion of his or her junior year (or the applicable date within the sport) even if he or she will repeat the junior year; however, once the prospective student-athlete begins classes as a junior for the following academic year, no further contact may occur until July 1 following the academic year (or the applicable date within the sport) or the first day of classes of his or her senior year, whichever is earlier.
