Tucker and Wright Named TCU Athletes of the Week
Sept. 13, 2011Fort Worth, Texas--Football running back Mathew Tucker and women's soccer goalkeeper Alicen Wright were named TCU Athletes of the Week for their on-field performances.
Tucker led the Frogs rushing attack against Air Force this past weekend in place of the injured Ed Wesley. Tucker had 95 yards on sixteen carries. Tucker scored from one-yard out to put the Frogs up 14-0. He scored again before the end of the half to put TCU up 21-0. Tucker's longest run of the game was 22 yards.
Wesley and the TCU football team will hit the field on September 17 for their home opener against Louisiana-Monroe.
TCU true freshman goalkeeper Alicen Wright was rock solid between the pipes for the Horned Frogs this weekend, posting a pair of 1-0 shutouts to lead the Purple and White to the 2011 Red Raider Classic Championship. The Chino Hills, Calif., native was named the Most Valuable Goalkeeper for the tournament, recording 11 combined saves against Toledo and Hofstra. Wright recorded five saves on 20 shots against the Rockets to open the tournament and tallied six saves on 22 shots from Hofstra in the weekend finale.
The shutouts were the second and third of the season for the Frogs' newcomer through the first seven games. Wright currently leads the Mountain West Conference in saves (48), saves per game (6.86) and save percentage (.906), while ranking second in the league in goals against average (0.72) and shutouts (3). The newcomer is also ranked at the national level as the No. 10 goalkeeper in terms of saves and No. 17 in save percentage.
Wright and the women's soccer team will continue their non-conference schedule at Stephen F. Austin on September 16.
