TCU Announces Student-Athletes of the Month
Oct. 8, 2009
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department honored Daryl Washington, Bart Johnson, Kourtney Edwards and Carrie von Uhlit as its Student-Athletes of the Month for their efforts for the Horned Frogs.
Washington was selected as the TCU Male Student-Athlete of the Month after the TCU senior led the Frogs with 28 tackles, including back-to-back games of nine and 13 stops versus Texas State and Clemson, respectively. Washington's 13 tackles against Clemson were the most for a Frog since Jason Phillips collected 13 stops in the season finale of the 2007 campaign.
Edwards notched TCU Female Student-Athlete of the Month accolades after the Frogs' middle blocker became the program's all-time leader in career blocks. In addition, Edwards led the Frogs to three consecutive tournament championships in which she was voted as the Tournament Most Valuable Player at each one. This month, Edwards was twice selected as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week.
Von Uhlit was selected as the TCU Scholar Athlete of the Month after the TCU senior posted a perfect 8-0 record in reining while going 3-1 in horsemanship. A national champion during the 2008 season, von Uhlit collected five MVP awards this month and finished with an 11-1 overall record.
Johnson finished the first month of the season with a team-high 14 receptions, which nearly equals his career-high total of 15 catches set last season. The TCU wide receiver posted a career-high seven receptions against Texas State and collected four catches in a 14-10 victory over Clemson.
