Bonner and Seely receive TCU Student-Athlete of the Week accolades
Nov. 9, 2005
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Football player Brian Bonner and diver Kelly Seely have been named the TCU Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 7.
A sophomore from Beeville, Texas, Bonner had two first-half interceptions while combining on a pair of sacks, including one that resulted in a safety, as No. 18 TCU captured the Mountain West Conference championship with a 33-6 win over Colorado State.
Bonner's second pick, a diving grab on a deep ball, led to a 26-yard Chris Manfredini field goal that gave TCU a 24-6 halftime lead. He combined with defensive end Chase Ortiz on an end zone sack of CSU quarterback Justin Holland as the Horned Frogs increased their advantage to 26-6 with a safety early in the third quarter.
Bonner teamed with Robert Henson for a 12-yard sack on the first play of the fourth quarter. Bonner totaled four stops in the game with two for a loss of 10 yards. He keyed a TCU defensive unit that forced four turnovers and limited the Rams to 253 yards of offense, including 59 rushing on 30 attempts.
Seely, a senior from Friendswood, Texas, broke a 14-year-old TCU women's record with a 6-dive score of 322.28 on the 3-meter board. Former Horned Frog All-American Kelly Crowell had established the previous mark in 1991. Seely's effort helped the Frogs post a 143-91 Saturday victory over Air Force.
In a Friday home meet with UNLV, Seely garnered top honors on the 3-meter as she scored a 257.03.
