TCU Athletics Announces Student-Athletes of the Month
Nov. 12, 2008
Jerry Hughes (Sugar Land, Texas | Austin High School)
Hughes was selected as both the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Football Writers' Association of American/Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week after his four sacks and two forced fumble performance in a 32-7 victory over nationally-ranked BYU. The four sacks tied a Mountain West Conference record and were just shy of TCU's single-game mark (4.5 sacks).
Nina Munch-Soegaard (Amarillo, Texas | Home School)
The TCU junior also posted a 6-1 record in doubles' action this past month with teammate Maria Babanova (Moscow, Russia | School No. 712) en route to advancing to the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships. Munch-Soegaard became the first TCU women's tennis player to compete in singles' action at the ITA National Indoor Championships since Helena Besovic and Nicole Leimbach achieved the feat in 2005.
Macall Harkins (Palos Verdes, Calif. | University of Illinois)
In doubles action - Harkins recorded a 6-1 record alongside partner Anna Sydorska (Lviv, Ukraine | School #32) en route to advancing to the finals of the Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships. The TCU duo notched their second straight at-large bid to the ITA National Indoor Championships where they were fourth-seed.
Josh Bagby (Houston, Texas | Westside High School)
