FORT WORTH – Opening conference play at home, No. 9 TCU volleyball broke out the brooms, sweeping Houston on Wednesday night inside Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs (11-2, 1-0 Big 12) handled business, taking down the Cougars (7-5, 0-1 Big 12) in straight sets. It marked TCU's 15th consecutive win on its home court dating back to last season (7-0 in 2025).
Sophomore Evan Hendrix led the offense with 13 kills and added 14 digs, followed by freshman Samara Coleman, who tallied 10 kills and 12 digs for her first career double-double. The middle blocker duo of Alexis Roberson and Sarah Sylvester had an extremely efficient night, combining for 13 kills on 19 swings (.632 clip).
Both teams fought for control of the first set of Big 12 play. It was Houston who held a slight two-point edge at the media timeout, but the Frogs reset and rattled off three straight points to take a 16-15 lead. The Cougars stayed within striking distance, eventually tying the match back up at 23, but TCU held on to secure a 25-23 set win.
TCU and Houston traded points back and forth again to start the second set. Momentum shifted the Frogs' way when Becca Kelley delivered two powerful kills that lifted the team and the home crowd, but a scrappy Houston continued to claw back. The Cougars fended off set point to send the second into extra points. It was then TCU who had to battle back and overcome four UH set points. Hendrix spoiled Houston's final chance to even the match, and Foti aced the Cougars to close out a marathon second set at 32-30.
With all the momentum on their side, the Frogs entered set three looking to complete the sweep at home. Deadlocked at 14, TCU then gained control, building a six-point lead at 22-16, sparked by Sylvester's kill —the largest margin of the night. Kelley capped off the sweep with the final kill, giving the Frogs a 3-0 victory.
No. 9 TCU's week continues with a top-25 matchup against No. 20 Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 27, in Waco. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
