TCU Opens Spring With Win Over Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- TCU fired a season-high 2,343 in air rifle en route to a victory over the Coast Guard Academy Sunday in New London, Conn. Freshman Sally Li paced the Horned Frogs in both disciplines.
TCU fired a 4,615 aggregate score on the day. The match marked TCU's first time out since a Nov. 23 meeting with Jacksonville State.
Of TCU's 10 matches this season, Li has led the Horned Frogs in air rifle four times and three times in smallbore.
Li had a strong supporting cast in air rifle, as Catherine Green and Hannah Black shot 587 and 586, respectively. Jaime Dowd rounded out the top four scorers with a 580. For Li, it was her fourth time this season to fire a 590 or better in air rifle.
In smallbore, TCU shot a team score of 2,272. Once again, Li paced the squad with a score of 572. Black was second on the squad with a 569, and Green came in third for the Horned Frogs with a 567.
The Bears were led by Nicholas Paisker in both disciplines. He posted a 566 in air rifle as well as a 545 in smallbore. Alexis Chavarria-Aguilar was the runner-up for Coast Guard in each category with a 556 and 542, respectively.
TCU will return to its home range Feb. 1 against Ohio State, its second-to-last match in Fort Worth for the year.
