Rifle Returns With Strong Performance

FORT WORTH -- In their return to the firing range, the TCU rifle team showed no rust in firing a 4,716 to finish first in a triangular match, topping Ohio State and the Coast Guard. Mindy Miles paced all shooters with an aggregate score of 1,181.
TCU turned in the best team score in both disciplines, shooting a 2,376 in air rifle and a 2,340 in smallbore. The air rifle score was its fifth best this season, while it marked the fourth time the Horned Frogs reached the 2,340 plateau in smallbore.
The Frogs had four of the top six air rifle scores, led by Miles' 598. Elizabeth Marsh fired a 596 to take home second place, while Rachel Garner and Casey Lutz each fired identical scores of 592.
TCU dominated the smallbore field, turning in four of the top five scores. Garner led the way with a 588, while Marsh sat third with a score of 585. Ariana Grabowski finished fourth after shooting a 584 and Miles sat fifth with her mark of 583. While not factoring in the team score, Emily Haag matched her season-high with a 574 in the discipline.
Ohio State finished second in the match with a team score of 4,693 (2,366 -- air rifle; 2,327 -- smallbore) and Coast Guard rounded out the competition with a 4,540 (2,279 -- air rifle; 2,261 -- smallbore). Elizabeth Dutton (1,177 aggregate) was the top shooter for Ohio State, while the Coast Guard was paced by Seth Strayer (1,143 aggregate).
TCU hits the road for its final regular season match next Saturday at UTEP. The following week the squad will take part in the Patriot Rifle Conference championships before its road to the NCAA commences on Feb. 17 with the NCAA Qualifier match.
