EL PASO, Texas - The TCU women's rifle team solidified their march to the postseason with a win at UTEP on Saturday. The Horned Frogs topped the Miners 4,694-4,511. Sarah Scherer set an NCAA record in smallbore, firing a 597.

Scherer added a 598 in air rifle to tie the NCAA record for aggregate score. With the two disciplines combined, the senior's aggregate score was 1,195. In smallbore, she shot a perfect 200 in prone, a 199 in standing and a 198 in kneeling. In air rifle, she fired five perfect strings of 100, including the final four strings. Her lone 9's came in the second string of shots when she shot a 98.

Scherer's record-breaking efforts in smallbore set the tone for the Frogs as they took a 2,335-2,223 victory in the discipline. The Frogs boasted the top four shooters in the event. Sarah Beard finished second with a score of 583, followed by Caitlin Morrissey's 579. Megan Lee came in fourth with a score of 576.

Also shooting in smallbore were Hannah Black (574), Claudia Duksa (568) and Catherine Green (556).

TCU boasted five of the top six shooters in air rifle to help TCU to a 2,359-2,288 win. Jaime Dowd fired a career-high 590 (98-96-100-99-98-99) to finish second, tying with Sarah Beard, who also sot a 590 (93-100-100-100-99-98). Green shot a 588 to finish fifth, while Morrissey fired a 583 for a sixth place finish.

Also shooting air for TCU were Lee (576) and Black (578).

The match marked the final regular season match of the season. The Frogs will fire one more match before the NCAA Championships in March. TCU will host Air Force in the NCAA qualifier on Feb. 16 at the TCU Rifle Range.
