Rifle Scores Qualifier Victory Over Air Force

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frog rifle team wrapped up the regular season with a 4680-4600 win over Air Force in the NCAA Qualifier. The victory is TCU's 31st straight in regular season action and improves it to 12-0 on the season.

TCU put forth a solid effort in smallbore to get an early advantage in the match. The Frogs combined to shoot a 2319 and boasted four of the top five shooters in the discipline. Sarah Scherer led the way, firing a 587 for tops in the match. Right behind her was Sarah Beard, who shot a 586. Caitlin Morrissey shot a 576 to finish third. Mattie Brogdon shot a 570 and Catherine Green a 564 to round out the counters for TCU.

The Frogs dominated air rifle, topping the Falcons 2361-2324 to claim the match victory. TCU sported five of the top six shooters Scherer again led the way, shooting a 595 to remain undefeated in the discipline this season. Brogdon fired a season-high 590 to finish second and Morrissey was right behind her in third after shooting a 589. Green turned in a solid effort, firing a 587 and Baerd was sixth with a 582.

Shooting, but not factoring in the team scores, were Claudia Duksa (564 in smallbore and a 572 in air rifle), Nicole Makrakis (555, smallbore; 558, air rifle) and Maggie Savage (579, air rifle).

TCU figures to be the top team when the field of eight for the NCAA Championships are announced on Wednesday. The national championships are set for March 9-10. Ohio State will be the host.
