TCU Takes Second At NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the second straight season, the TCU Womens' Rifle team will be bringing home trophies after finishing second at the NCAA Championships. Individually, Rachel Garner earned a bronze medal.

West Virginia captured the National Championship with a team score of 4,723, topping TCU's mark of 4,706. Murray State finished third with a 4,692 and Kentucky rounded out the top four with a 4,682. Alaska turned in a score of 4,676, followed by Nebraska (4,674), Ohio State (4,670) and Air Force (4,653).

TCU finished second in air rifle with a solid team score of 2,372.

The Horned Frogs turned in a trio of strong scores in the first relay of the day. Rachel Garner posted a 597 followed closely by Mind Miles with a 596. Sally Li posted a 590 to round out relay one. In the second relay, Ariana Grabowski fired a 585 and Casey Lutz a 589.

Both Garner and Miles qualified for the individual finals. It was a battle to the finish as Garner and Miles stayed within striking distance of the individual title. Miles finished fourth after shooting a 164.6. Garner pushed to the end, but ended up third after firing a 186.1 in the finals.

The second place finish at the NCAAs puts a cap on a stellar season for the Purple and White. TCU fired a 4,700 or better in all but one match this season and went undefeated through the regular season spending numerous weeks at No. 1.
