Rifle Dominates In Win At The Citadel

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frog rifle team dominated the eight-team field at a match hosted by The Citadel. TCU blew away the competition, topping second place finisher, Jacksonville State 4663-4610. The victory stretches the Frogs regular-season winning streak to 22 matches.

The field of eight featured TCU, Jacksonville State, Columbus State, North Carolina State, The Citadel's men's and women's team, North Georgia State College and Wofford.

TCU fired the top three scores in air rifle and finished first with an aggregate score of 2358. Sarah Scherer continued to dominate, shooting a 596 for the seventh time in her career. Catherine Green finished second with a score of 589. Sarah Beard took home third place after shooting a 587. Caitlin Morrissey's 586 was good for fifth place finish. Mattie Brogdon rounded out the Frogs' top five shooters with a 585.

Also shooting for TCU in air rifle were Jaime Dowd (577), Claudia Duksa (572) and Nicole Makrakis (546).

TCU posted the top score of 2305 to take home first place in smallbore. Scherer paced the Frogs for the second straight week in the event, shooting a 582 to take home first place honors. Brogdon finished third with a 578. Morrissey was right behind her in fourth place with a 576. Duksa finished sixth with a 574 and Green came in eighth with a 569.

The Horned Frogs return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when they host one of the top teams in the country, Alaska.
