Rifle team shows improvement at home

Fort Worth, Texas - The Horned Frog rifle team hosted the 14th annual Horned Frog Invitational the past two weekends. Texas A&M, UTEP, Nevada and New Mexico Military Institute accepted the invite.
Nevada finished first in both air rifle and smallbore with scores of 2,352 and 2,300, respectively. UTEP placed second with a smallbore score of 2,254 and air rifle score of 2,295.
Sophomore Emily Conway continued to lead the team. She had the highest scores for the Frogs in both smallbore and air rifle for the last three meets in a row. She shot a 565 in air rifle and a 547 in smallbore. Senior Dana O'Shea also showed great imporvement. O'Shea finished second among the TCU shooters with an air rifle score of 544 and smallbore mark of 525.
Sophomore Nikki LeCompte and freshman Leah Neubauer rounded out the rest of the Frog team. LeCompte shot a 522 in smallbore and a 543 in air. Neubauer had a 540 mark for air rifle and a 517 smallbore score.
New Mexico Military Institute placed fourth with smallbore and air rifle marks of 1,904 and 1,998. Texas A&M finished last because two shooters did not finish the meet.
This meet was the first time this season where the Frogs competed in team smallbore. The meet also marked the Frogs' highest air rifle mark thus far. The team will be in action at Missouri Oct. 23.
