Rifle Wins 16th Straight; Tops UTEP

Sarah Scherer helped TCU to a 4,667-4,493 victory over UTEP on Saturday. The win is the Horned Frogs 16th straight overall and stretches its regular season unbeaten streak to 34.
Scherer fired an NCAA record 596 in smallbore. The discipline requires the shooter to fire 20 shots in each of three positions: prone, kneeling and standing. The defending smallbore National Champion, Scherer shot a perfect 200 in prone, a 199 in standing and a 197 in kneeling. She had just one "nine shot" in her first fifth shots.
Her record-setting performance set the tone for the match as the Frogs fired a 2309 team score in smallbore. Megan Lee finished second after firing a 581. Caitlin Morrissey (573) and Hannah Black (570) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Catherine Green rounded out the Frog counters with a 559.
Also shooting, but not factoring into the aggregate were Claudia Duksa (564) and Nicoole Makrakis (550).
Scherer also set the pace in air rifle with a 596. Morrissey finished third with a score of 591. Sarah Beard finished right behind her, shooting a 590. Black fired a 581 to finish eighth. Rounding out the team score was Green's 568.
Also shooting for the Frogs were Kelly Bogart, who fired a personal best 585 to finish fifth, Megan Lee, who shot a 584 for a sixth place finish. Jaime Dowd finished eighth with a score of 581. Maggie Savage (577) and Allie Taschuk (574) rounded out the top 10. Makrakis shot a 557 and Lydia McGarva a 545.
TCU will return to the range on Nov. 3 when it hosts Memphis.
