Winning Streak Reaches 17 for Rifle

FORT WORTH - Another solid effort on the range helped the TCU Rifle team extend their winning streak to 17 matches with a 4,680-4,595 win over Memphis on Saturday. TCU has won 35 straight regular season matches dating back to 2009.

The Horned Frogs got strong performances from Sarah Scherer and Sarah Beard in both smallbore and air rifle as the duo finished 1-2 in the disciplines. TCU handily won the smallbore match by a score of 2,322-2,266 and walked away with 2,358-2,329 win in air rifle.

Scherer fired a 596 in air rifle and was followed by Beard's tally of 591. Caitlin Morrissey rounded out the top three shooters with a mark of 587 in the event. Megan Lee continued her impressive freshman campaign with a fifth place finish after shooting a 584 in air. Kelly Bogart, Jaime Dowd and Hannah Black each shot a 576 to complete the top 11. Catherine Green was right behind in 12th with a score of 575.

In smallbore, Scherer has been impressive in her quest to defend her national title. She fired a 590 (199 prone, 195 standing, 196 kneeling) in the discipline, marking the second straight match she has reached the 590 plateau. In total, she has fired a 590 or better in three of the first four matches.

Beard shot a 585 to finish second and Lee came in fourth after shooting a 576. Morrissey fired a 571 and Green a 570 to round out the team counters.

TCU will hit the road next Saturday as it travels to Ohio State for a match against the Buckeyes. Columbus will also be the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships in March.
