Rifle Shoots Solid Score at West Virginia

FORT WORTH – The top two teams in the NCAA went head-to-head on the rifle range with West Virginia coming out on top with a 4,727-4,717 victory over TCU. Freshman Elizabeth Marsh turned in a career-high 598 score in air rifle.

TCU produced three of the top five aggregate scores, led by Casey Lutz’s career-high 1,182 mark. Marsh finished fourth with an aggregate mark of 1,179, followed by Rachel Garner in fifth (1,176).

Garner was TCU’s top shooter in smallbore with a 587, which placed third in the field. Lutz followed in fourth with a season-high 586. Marsh and Ariana Grabowski fired identical 581s to give TCU a team score of 2,335.

Both TCU and West Virginia turned in an air rifle team score of 2,382. The team score is tied for second in program history. The Frogs boasted three of the top four scores. Mindy Miles matched Marsh’s 598 and was followed by Lutz with a 596. Grabowski rounded out the counters with a 590.

Not factoring in the team score was Catherine Miller, who fired a career-high 594 in air rifle. Rachel Kimbell also shot a career-high 588 in air rifle. Barrett Ray tied her season-high with a 588 in air rifle.

TCU returns to the rifle range on Saturday when it hosts UTEP.
