Rifle Hosts Ohio State Saturday
Jan. 31, 2014
FORT WORTH - For the first time in program history the TCU rifle team will host a conference match. On Saturday, the Horned Frogs will welcome Ohio State in a Patriot Rifle Conference match-up. The match will take place at the TCU Rifle Range.
Both TCU and Ohio State are charter members of the Patriot Rifle Conference, formed this past summer. The teams will meet again next week at the Patriot Rifle Conference championships, hosted by the Buckeyes.
The Frogs are coming off a 4,615-4,516 victory over the Coast Guard Academy on Jan. 19 in their spring debut. Freshman Sally Li led TCU in both disciplines. It marked the fourth time this season for Li to lead the team in both smallbore and air rifle. She reached the 590 plateau in air rifle for the fourth time this season.
TCU last competed at home on Nov. 17 when it defeated UTEP to wrap up a four-match homestand. Two days prior to the win over the Miners, the Frogs defeated Jacksonville State. Li recorded her highest aggregate score (1,172) and tied for her best smallbore mark (581) in that match.
Li is TCU's top shooter in both air rifle (588) and smallbore (577) this season. Hannah Black is second in both disciplines, posting a season average of 586 and 575 in air rifle and smallbore, respectively. Catherine Green (585) sits third in air rifle average and Megan Lee ranks third in smallbore average (572).
The Buckeyes are coming off a fourth-place finish at the eight-team Roger Withrow Open hosted by Murray State in Columbus, Ohio. Amanda Luoma paced the squad in both disciplines, firing a 591 in air rifle and a 585 in smallbore.
OSU made some history its previous outing before the Roger Withrow Open, setting new program records for aggregate (4,666) and air rifle (2,351) at Alaska-Fairbanks. The Buckeyes were led by Luoma (594) and Greg Hagar (588) in air rifle, which were personal bests for both. Anthony Cuozzo also recorded a career-high in smallbore with a 583 to lead Ohio State.
Fans are encouraged to stop by the TCU Rifle Range anytime Saturday to catch the Frogs in action.
