FORT WORTH, Texas - USA shooting has tabbed Sarah Scherer, a sophomore on the TCU rifle team, its ELEY Athlete of the Month. Scherer most recently took home a gold medal at the Bavarian Championships in Munich, Germany.

Here is a look back at her journey in Munich:
Firing on an Olympic course that consists of 40 shots, Scherer shot a 396 in the qualifying round to finish in a six-way tie for third place. The top eight shooters advanced to the final round that consisted of firing 10 shots. Through the first nine shots of the round, Scherer trailed by 0.8 points. On her final shot, the talented sophomore fired a 10.8 to beat Croatia's Tanja Perec for the gold medal. Scherer's final tally of 104.4 was just 0.1 of a point ahead of Perec's 104.3.

On day two, Scherer fired a 397 in the qualification round, putting her in a three-way tie for third place with Slovenia's Ziva Dvorsak and Austria's Olivia Hofmann. In the final round, Scherer fired a 101.1 to finish with a final score of 498.1, which placed her in fourth place.

USA National Rifle Coach Major Dave Johnson had this to say about Scherer, "Sarah had a strong performance in Germany. She made up two points on the leader and dominated the final. I expect her to continue to learn this spring and emerge as one of the contenders for London."

As a 2010 addition to the National Rifle Team, Scherer has qualified to compete in three World Cups this year in Women's 10m Air Rifle.
