FORT WORTH - A pair of TCU Rifle shooters were honored by the NCAA with the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Sarah Beard and Sarah Scherer were each granted the scholarship to further their education.

Nominated by the Faculty Athletic Rep, The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. The one-time grants of $7,500 each are awarded for fall sports, winter sports and spring sports. Each sports season (fall, winter and spring), there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships available for women. The scholarships are one-time, non-renewable grants.

Beard and Scherer recently wrapped up an incredible four-year career at TCU that saw the program earn a pair of NCAA Championships (2010 and 2012) as well as two third-place finishes (2011 and 2013). Along the way, the team claimed a pair of Air Rifle team championships (2010 and 2012) and a Smallbore team title (2013). They finished their careers with a 48-3 record.

Beard was a four-time All-American in both disciplines, earning first-team honors each of her last two seasons. Scherer was recognized as just the 10th shooter to earn first-team accolades in both disciplines all four years of her career. Scherer was a two-time smallbore National Champion. Both were four-time recipients of the CRCA All-Academic Award.
