Frogs Complete World Championship Tryouts

FORT WORTH - Six athletes who are former, current and future members of the TCU rifle team recently wrapped up the tryouts for the World Championships that will take place in Grenada, Spain. Five Horned Frogs finished in the top 10 of the smallbore tryouts.
Sarah Scherer is the lone female to qualify for the World Championships in both air rifle and smallbore Scherer was the top qualifier in smallbore after firing a three-day score of 1,765, well ahead of her nearest competitor, Amanda Furrer's score of 1,754. She was the lone shooter to qualify for all three finals. Scherer finished on top in the first day's final and placed second in each of the two other finals.
Lorenzen finished fifth after shooting a three-day score of 1,737. Beard was seventh with a 1,731 with Black right behind her with a score of 1,724. Miles shot a 1,722 over the course of the competition to round out the top 10.
The Frogs got off to a strong start in the tryouts as Scherer, Beard, Lorenzen and Black were all among the top eight after two days of competition. Beard, Lorenzen and Black qualified for two of the three finals. Scherer and Lorenzen were two of only four shooters in the competition to shoot above 580 in two of the three competition days
On day two, going into the last shot of the final, Black and Scherer had one shot to fire to determine the winner. Black fired an almost perfect 10.6 to claim first place over Scherer in the final
Miles qualified for one final and finished fourth in the second day's final. Her standing score of 193 fired on the second day in the qualification was the second highest in the competition.
Both Beard and Scherer will also compete in the upcoming World Cups in Munich, Germany and Maribor, Slovenia next month.
