Riford Named MWC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU's Simone Riford, a member of the 2010 National Champion Rifle team, was named the Mountain West Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Riford, a four-year letterwinner on the Horned Frogs' rifle team, graduated magna cum laude from TCU in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in studio art. The Kaneohe, Hawaii, product amassed a 3.871 cumulative GPA en route to receiving MWC Scholar-Athlete Awards each of the last two years. Riford was also a three-time Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association All-Academic Award recipient.

On the range, Riford was named an All-American each of her four years, capping off her career as a member of TCU's 2010 NCAA Rifle Championship team. In addition to organizing art supply drives for local elementary schools and participating in the SuperFrog Reading Challenge, Riford was a co-founder of TCU ArtOrg, the first student organization for artists at the university, serving as president for two years.

Riford is the second rifle team member to be honored by the conference in the last two years as Erin Lorenzen was honored with the 2009 MWC Sportsmanship Award.
