FORT WORTH - Fresh off a National Championship in 2012, the TCU rifle team has been ranked No. 1 in the preseason C.R.C.A poll. The Horned Frogs return four of the five shooters from last season's squad.

The Frogs have won 13 straight matches dating back to the start of last season and are winners of 31 straight regular season matches dating back to the 2009 campaign. They are lead by a trio of seniors, Sarah Beard, Caitlin Morrissey and Sarah Scherer who are 38-2 in their careers with a pair of National Championships (2010 and 2012).

TCU will play a tough schedule in 2012-13 as all but one opponent on the docket is ranked in the top 16. The Frogs open the campaign at the Ole Miss Invitational on Sept. 30. They will shoot against No. 7 Jacksonville State and No. 16 Columbus State.

On Oct. 6, the Frogs will open the home schedule against a Citadel squad that is receiving votes. After a two-week break, No. 13 UTEP will head to Fort Worth. It's the first of two meetings between the Frogs and the Miners. The second meeting is slated for Feb. 2 in El Paso.

A trio of matches awaits the team in the month of November. TCU will travel to No. 14 Memphis on Nov. 3, No. 10 Ohio State on Nov. 10 and No. 2 Kentucky on Nov. 17. The match against the Wildcats concludes the fall slate of matches.

Competition resumes on Jan. 19 when the Frogs head to Alaska for a pair of matches against No. 4 Alaska-Fairbanks. The second meeting is on Jan. 21. After the Feb. 2 meeting at UTEP, the Frogs return to host No. 12 Air Force in the NCAA Qualifier.

The National Championships return to the Ohio State campus on March 8-9.

To qualify for the National Champions, the selection committee evaluates the team aggregate scores from every match. They will take the top four scores and add them up to determine the top eight teams in the country. Three of the four scores have to come from a different venue. The fourth score that is factored in comes from the NCAA Qualifier.
