Oct. 6, 2017
FORT WORTH – After a strong opening weekend of action, the TCU rifle team will hit the road this weekend as they head to The Citadel for a Saturday match. After the first two weeks of the season, the Horned Frogs boast the top aggregate average (4,727) in the nation.
Joining the Frogs at The Citadel will be Jacksonville State as well as the women’s only squad for the Citadel.
TCU turned in two of the top three aggregate scores in the nation last weekend in tournaments at Memphis and Ole Miss. Both marks were among the top three in program history. Led by veteran shooters Mindy Miles, Rachel Garner, Casey Lutz, Ariana Grabowski and Catherine Miller the Frogs boast one of the strongest lineups in the country. The addition of freshman Liz Marsh has made the lineup a formidable one.
Miles leads the nation with an average of 598.5 in air rifle and ranks second with 592.5 in smallbore. Lutz ranks tied for third in the nation with a 595.5 in air rifle.
The Frogs boast four of the top seven smallbore shooters. Marsh (583), Lutz (585) and Garner (584) are among the nation’s top athletes in the discipline.
The Citadel have fired three matches this season, hosting a pair of invites and shooting in a match at VMI. Robert Brabston has turned in the top three aggregate scores for The Citadel. He has fired the top marks in both disciplines in all three matches this season.
This will be just the second match for The Citadel’s women’s only team, having also fired at VMI. Carli Cline turned in the top aggregate score for the team.
Jacksonville State has fired two matches this season, taking part in the Tiger Invitational at Memphis and the Ole Miss Invite. David Sink and Trace Haynes are the top two shooters for the Gamecocks.
