Frogs Win Dual at North Texas

DENTON, Texas -- The TCU women's swimming and diving team closed out the regular season Wednesday night with a 154-131 win in dual with the University of North Texas.

"It was a very successful meet for our team. We were fortunate to win. It's a good North Texas team," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. "We were on a roll. We did a good job."

The Frogs are now 19-3 all-time in duals with the Mean Green.

The Frogs were firing right from the start with the 200-yard medley team of Lyndsie Gibson, Gabi Korac, Ali Polhill and Julie Grace Sanders posting the winning time of 1 minute, 46.68 seconds.

From there, the Frogs continued to roll.

Sara Brzozowski (10:16.51) and Carley Stevens (10:25.14) placed first and second, respectively, in the 1,000-yard free in the second event of the day.

Sanders posted four first-place finishes. In addition to the 200-yard medley, Sanders won the 50-yard free (24.25); 100-yard free (53.23) and was the first leg of the winning 400-yard free relay (3:34.87).

Mikayla Winkler had a big meet as well by winning the 200-yard free (1:51.59), the 500-yard free (4:58.79), and was the anchor leg of the 400-yard free relay.

Gibson, along with being on the 200-yard medley relay, won 100-yard backstroke (56.64) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.39).

In a rare circumstance, there was a tie for first in the 200-yard butterfly between Frogs Ali Bleasdell and Catherine Rash (2:06.14).

Other notable performances included: Meagan Thompson (2nd, 200-yard free, 1:56.17) and Brzozowski (2nd, 500-yard free, 5:03.83).

In the diving competition, Lauren Mikulecky placed second (256.88) and Kristen Connolly was third (246.68).

The Frogs (6-2, 3-0) will now prepare for the Big 12 Conference Championships Feb. 26-March 1 in Austin.

"We're really pleased to have a winning record and we're heading in the right direction going into the Big 12 Conference meet," Sybesma said.
