Horned Frogs Fall to Longhorns

AUSTIN, Texas - The TCU men and women's swimming and diving teams fell to the No. 2/6 Texas Longhorns on Friday night at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.

The men's team moved to 4-2 this season after the 151-122 decision, while the women's team now sits at 7-4 after the 157-111 result.

"Tonight wrapped up the dual portion of our season," head coach Richard Sybesma said. "Now, we'll shift our focus to the Big 12 Championship meet."

The Horned Frogs swept the top mark in both the men's and women's 200 back thanks to performances by seniors Ali Bleasdell and Cooper Robinson.

Bleasdell earned a win in the women's 200 back with a time of 2:02.43. It's her second win of the season in the event and eighth overall during her senior campaign.

In the men's event, Robinson paced to a time of 1:48.04 for his fifth win in the event this year and 11th overall this season.

TCU also claimed both 400 IM events. In the women's 400 IM, junior Sara Brzozowski recorded a first-place finish, clocking in at 4:36.04. It's her first win of the year in the event and second overall.

On the men's side, freshman Carlos Hunnicutt won the event with a time of 4:02.49. It was his sixth overall win this season.

The Horned Frogs claimed the top four times in the women's 200 breast after a win by freshman Lindsay Shabet at 2:21.62, her second of the season. Following Shabet were sophomore Ashley Dyke (2:24.66), junior Michelle Garland (2:26.98) and senior Carmen Lindmoen (2:27.90).

Robinson also tallied a second-place time in the men's 100 back at 49.98 in a close race. He placed only 0.58 seconds behind the top finisher.

Freshman Devin Newton and Bleasdell posted their fastest times of the season in the women's 100 back with third and fourth-place marks, respectively. Newton recorded a time of 58.36, while Bleasdell paced to a mark of 58.83.

In the women's 500 free, junior Mikayla Winkler picked up a second-place finish behind a time of 5:06.86.

Junior Ford Story also finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 56.42.

Freshman Garrett Hills posted a second-place time in the men's 100 free at 46.24. He also finished 0.01 seconds back of second place in the men's 50 free, clocking in at 21.30.

In the men's 100 fly, senior Adam Szilagyi finished second behind a mark of 50.92.

Senior Ricky Bradley tallied the team's top marks in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter dive events. He recorded scores of 286.05 and 309.83, respectively.

On the women's side, freshman Ty Sides led the Horned Frogs in the 1-meter with a score of 262.13. In the 3-meter dive, senior Courtney Cheek had the team's top mark at 265.20, a season-high for her in the event.

Up next for the Horned Frogs is a return to Austin for the Big 12 Championships on Feb. 25-28.
