Two Frogs NCAA "B" Qualify On Thursday Night

Houston, Texas - Senior Craig Chapman and junior Leann Catchcart posted NCAA "B" qualifying times today at the C-USA Championships/Invitational in Houston, Texas. The Frogs jumped East Carolina to take the lead in the men's standings with 287 points. The women dropped a spot to second place with 234 points, however, they trail only Tulane by 12 points.
After posting the third fastest time in the preliminaries on Thursday morning, Chapman moved up one spot to earn a runner-up finish in the 500-free. The senior touched the wall in a personal-best 4:26.92 to NCAA "B" qualify. The time is the third best in TCU history. Senior Andy Donovan just missed all-conference honors in the event as he finished fourth in 4:38.81.
In the prelims of the 50-free, Catchart swam a season-best time of 23.37 seconds to secure the top seed heading into the finals. The junior swam to yet another personal best later in the day when she NCAA "B" qualified with a time of 23.28 seconds. Cathcart's time is the second best in the TCU record books and is only three one hundredths off the school record.
Sophomore Erica Tate gave the Frogs two of the three top times in the 50-free with her third place finish. Tate set a personal best in the preliminaries with a time of 23.60 seconds and in the finals the sophomore clocked a 23.61.
In the men's 50-yard sprint, freshman Scott McCracken earned all-conference honors with his personal best performance. The freshman tied for third place when he sprinted to a 20.66 finish.
On the diving side of the pool, junior Kelly Seely just missed being an all-conference honoree in the 3-meter for the second straight season when she finished fourth with 400.65 points.
The Frogs will return to the pool tomorrow morning with prelims at 10 a.m. Finals will begin in the evening at 6 p.m.
