TCU Wraps Up Competition at Big 12 Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – The TCU swimming and diving team concluded at the 2018 Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championship in Austin on Saturday.

TCU had three swimmers score points in the men’s 1650 free, with Heyward Brown placing fifth (15:38.35), followed by Kevin Chao in sixth (15:46.28) and Rhory Legendre in seventh (15:50.71).

Three Horned Frogs also reached the men’s 200 fly A final, where Matthew Spallas finished fifth (1:48.17), Dayne Odendaal finished sixth (1:48.77), and Carlos Hunnicutt finished seventh (1:48.90).

In the women’s 1650, Katie Woods placed fifth with a time of 16:49.63. Victoria Barczyk finished eighth in 17:02.68.

Derek Bowers scored 267.40 points in the men’s platform dive and finished fifth. Owen Moncino followed in sixth with a score of 255.85.

In the women’s 200 fly A final, Catherine Maxey finished sixth (2:01.42) while senior Maddie Johnson finished eighth (2:04.03).

In the women’s 200 breast, TCU went back-to-back with Lauren Halliburton in seventh (2:20.28) and Devin Newton in eighth (2:21.53).

In the men’s 100 free, Ross Sullivan finished seventh in 45.82 and freshman Matthew Brewer placed eighth in 45.32.

To wrap up the night, Amanda Key, Claire Munster, Katelyn Kenchel, and Micaela Roemer finished fifth in the 400 free relay (3:24.72), while Jakub Swierczynski, Jonathan Drewes, Brewer, and Ryan Whelan finished fourth in 3:02.41.

TCU finished third overall on the men’s side and the women finished fifth.
