Houston, Texas - The Horned Frog men and women cracked open the meet today, pulling ahead by more than 100 points on either end of the competition at the Conference USA Championships and Invite in Houston, Texas.

The women began the second night by winning the 200 medley relay in a meet and school record time of 1:44.11. The squad, senior Erin Irons, sophomore Leann Cathcart, junior Tiffany Strawn, and freshman Erica Tate, broke the school record set in 2002 by over a second. With the win, the women widened their lead to 71 points. The men were unable to duplicate the effort, coming in second to Cincinnati's own meet-record time of 1:30.57, the Bearcats' revenge for their disqualification last night in the 400 medley relay. The Horned Frogs did set a new school record in their runner-up finish, however, breaking last year's mark by over a second (1:31.19).

Freshmen Keleigh Wenworth and Christi Cannon teamed for a three-four finish in the 400 IM; East Carolina's Holly Williams broke the meet record set by TCU's Jamie MacCurdy back in 2002, winning the event in 4:22.91. Junior Scott McCure finished second in the men's portion, scoring a personal best in 3:57.71, while senior Andy Donovan and junior Kenneth Wherry followed at the five and seven spots. With these scores, the men pulled out to a lead of over 100 points.

In the 100 fly, Strawn and Tate finished four and five for the Frogs, while senior Aaron McLachlan finished fifth for the men. East Carolina crept closer to the men with its four point-scoring swimmer in the event, three in the top-eight compared to TCU's one. The Frogs still held a sizable lead with 75 points between them and the Pirates. For the women, East Carolina hopped to second place, bypassing Houston to be the next-in-line. The Pirates remained 79 points behind the Frog women while jumping ahead of the Cougars by nearly 30 points.

The women took their largest point coup of the meet when freshmen Karen Sandifer and Tara Sullivan and sophomore Jennifer Antisdale teamed to finish a commanding 1-2-3 in the 200 free, claiming 53 points in one fell swoop. The 200 free sweep put the Frogs 97 points ahead of the competition. For the men, however, the 200 free brought East Carolina within striking distance, a mere 25 points away from TCU's grasp on first place. Their five finalists boosted the Pirates' score by 72 points.

In the men's 100 breast, freshman Aran Bean wiped out the meet record while also landing an NCAA provisional time with his 55.41 time. McCallum and senior Jacob Taylor added their fourth and fifth place finishes to widen the gap again in the team scores.

In the backstrokes the men picked up huge points with four Frogs in the finals. Junior Craig Chapman defended his title, swimming a 49.39.

Sophomore Kelly Seely finished third in the one-meter with a 258.85 score. Houston's divers again made up ground for the Cougars, taking the 1-2-5-7 spots. Senior Codi McLamb finished ninth, six points away from finals, while Whitney Wheeler took 11th place and sophomore Rachael Jones took the 13th seat.

The women pulled a come-from-behind victory out in the 800 free relay, finishing in 7:32.38, over a second over Cincinnati, who the Frogs (Antisdale, Sullivan, freshman Keleigh Wentworth, Sandifer) had trailed for much of the race. Sandifer closed the gap between her and Cincinnati's anchor, Louise Gowens. With the relay win, the women cashed out with a 103 point lead over East Carolina and a 333 point lead over last-place Saint Louis.

In another exciting race, the Horned Frog men claimed a huge victory in the 800 free relay. Chapman opened a wide lead in the second leg that the squad (freshman Yousif Del Valle, Chapman, McLachlan, McCure) never lost, winning the event in six seconds over East Carolina.

The final day of the Conference USA Championships and Invite begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the 200-yard backstroke. The men's diving results, the final three events' stats, and the team scores are listed below.
