AUSTIN, Texas – TCU’s Adam Szilagyi gave qualifying for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships another shot Friday at the Texas Swimming Center during the American Short Course Championships. Szilagyi competed in the 100 back and finished second in the field at 47.90, but was unable to improve on his previous season-best time of 47.20 set at last week’s Big 12 Championships.

Szilagyi, a freshman, was fourth after the prelims with a time of 47.95, and was looking for a chance to drop time against a faster field in the finals. The opportunity didn’t come to the Hungarian as his time was unable to reach the levels he achieved a week earlier at the conference championships.

Both of the times Szilagyi swam were below the NCAA ‘B’ cut. He has now gone under the ‘B’ cut in the 100 back seven times in his debut season.

Tomorrow is the final day of competition. TCU has Szilagyi and Big 12 champion Cooper Robinson entered in the 200 back and Luiz Azarias entered in the men’s 200 fly. Prelims begin at 9:15 a.m. with the 200 back and finals are at 6 p.m.
