March 11, 2005

College Station, Texas - Junior Kelly McCain broke his own school record in the 1-meter springboard diving event (11 dives) this afternoon at the NCAA Sectional D Meet. The competition was held at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M University.

McCain finished fourth out of 12 divers with 558.05 points in his 11 dives. The previous school record, which he set during the 2003 season, was 557.75 points. Eric Sehn of host Texas A&M won the competition with 653.90 points.

"This is an exciting day for Kelly and the TCU diving program," said Head Coach Richard Sybesma. "With his performance, Kelly has put himself in a position to advance on to the NCAA Championships."

The junior still will compete in both the 3-meter and platform events this weekend. The 3-meter competition is on Saturday beginning at 4:30 p.m., while the platform starts at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
