McCain Qualifies For NCAA Diving Championships

College Station, Texas - Junior Kelly McCain finished second in the 3-meter springboard event, today, at the NCAA Sectional D Diving Meet in College Station, Texas. With his runner-up finish, McCain became the first male diver in TCU history to qualify for the NCAA Diving Championships that will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 24-26.
McCain finished with a personal-best score of 510.35 points, which is the third best mark in school history. Texas A&M's Eric Sehn, who also won the 1-meter, was the champion in the event with 544.95 points.
"I am thrilled that Kelly was able to qualify for the NCAA Championships," said diving coach Wayne Chester, who was the NCAA champion in the 1-meter in 1979, while competing at the University of Alabama. "Kelly has worked extremely hard to get to this point and I am excited for him to get the opportunity to compete at this level."
McCain, who also finished fourth in the 1-meter on Friday, will round the competition on Sunday in the platform event beginning at 2:30 p.m.
