COLUMBUS, Ohio - TCU sophomore Edgar Crespo competed in the 100-breaststroke event at the 2010 NCAA Men's National Championships Saturday, becoming the second Horned Frog swimmer to participate in the championships since 1997.

Crespo, a native of Panama City, Panama, posted a time of 54.00 in the preliminary event to miss the cut for the finals and place 27th overall.

Crespo had a breakout year for the Frogs, winning gold at the 2010 MWC Championships in the 100-breast, while setting a new TCU record time for the event at 53.32. Crespo was also a member of the Frogs' 200-medley relay squad that earned silver accolades and set a new TCU record on opening night of the Championships. The sophomore earned all-MWC honors for his finishes in the 100-breast, 100-fly and as a member of the Frogs’ 200-medley relay squad.

Including his 100-breast win at the MWC Championships, Crespo paced the Frogs with 14 total wins this season, going undefeated in the 100- and 200-breast events. The Panama City, Panama native was also two-time MWC Swimmer of the Week award winner. At the international level, Crespo also earned a pair of medals at the 2009 Bolivarian Games, taking gold in the 50-breast and silver standards in the 100-breast.
