Swimming & Diving Sweeps Falcons in Season Opener

FORT WORTH, Texas The men’s team defeated the Falcons 119-78, while the women’s squad topped UTPB 121-76. Ten of the 17 events won by the Horned Frogs came from freshmen performances.
“It was good to get out there and compete again, and I think we raced really well today,” said head coach Richard Sybesma, who is in his 38th year at the helm of the Frogs. “This is a great starting point for our team. UTPB’s program is building, and they raced well also. A lot of the events were close.”
Freshman Nicqueline Rettberg took home first in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles with times of 54.71 and 1:56.80, respectively. Freshman Hannah Burt led the pool in the 200 IM (2:12.22) and the 500 free (5:13.42). Freshman Claire Munster logged a first-place time of 24.80 in the women’s 50 free, and freshman Elise Forzley took care of business in the 100 fly, finishing with a first-place time of 59.68.
On the men’s side, freshman Migs Martin produced victories in the 200 IM and the 100 fly, clocking in with times of 1:55.03 and 52.65, respectively. Freshman Radu Duican won the 100 back with a time of 53.44. Junior Carlos Hunnicutt, who broke three school records last season, won the 500 free at 4:43.38. Senior Garrett Hills closed out the meet with a first-place time of 1:00.11 in the 100 breast.
TCU will resume competition on Oct. 19 as the men will take on the SMU Mustangs at 7 p.m. in Mansfield, Texas.
