Horned Frogs 1-0 on the Season

Abilene, Texas - Both the TCU men and women emerged undefeated from a early season swimming and diving meet with Texas neighbor McMurry University Tuesday night. The Horned Frog women grabbed nearly every event from under McMurry's nose to claim a 118 to 82 win, while the men won 115 to 90.
Freshmen Keleigh Wentworth, Erica Tate, Tara Sullivan, Karen Sandifer, Leann Cathcart, and Whitney Wheeler each claimed their first collegiate individual victories last night. Wentworth finished the 100 yard backstroke in 1:01.65, followed by Sullivan and junior Christie McAdams. Tate finished first in the 200 yard free with a time of 2:00.48, followed by freshman Christi Cannon and sophomore Margot Shiu. Sullivan claimed the 200 yard IM in 2:15.44 with Cathcart and sophomore Sarah Murphy finishing second and third behind her. Sandifer placed first in the 100 yard fly with a 1:00.47 finish, followed by Shiu and Wannemacher. Cathcart won the 100 yard free in 55.43 seconds, with sophomore Amanda Reid and freshman Maggie Skille following. Senior Liz Proffitt won the 50 yard free with a 25.71 time, followed by McAdams and Wannemacher. Wheeler scored a 184.10 in the women's one-meter dive.
A relay team of Wentworth, Sandifer, Skille, and Cannon finished first in the 200 yard medley while the men's team of junior Jacob Taylor, transfer Christoff Kotze, senior Mitch Loper, and freshman George Gooch claimed the 200 medley. Freshman Yousif Del Valle won the 500 yard free and sophomore Brent Norcross finished first in the 100 yard back and 200 yard free. Kotze claimed the 1000 free in 10:25.86 and Loper won the 100 free in 48.99
"This was a good opportunity to swim early in the season against some solid competition," Head coach Richard Sybesma said. "McMurry did a good job against us, but we did well, even in our off-events."
This weekend, the Horned Frogs swim against TCU swimming greats from the past in a TCU Homecoming alumni meet. Then the women of Florida travel to Fort Worth to take on the Frogs October 25 at 12 noon.
