#SwimDive Defeats South Dakota

AMES, Iowa – The TCU swimming and diving team competed against Iowa State and South Dakota on Friday. The women fell to Iowa State 193-103, but defeated South Dakota 218-81, while the men defeated the Coyotes 235-75.

TCU went one-two-three in the men’s 1000 free, with Kevin Chao picking up the win (9:48.56), followed by Heyward Brown (9:54.82) and Rhory Legendre (9:57.95). Later in the meet, the trio took the top three spots in the 500 free, with Odendaal finishing first, Chao second, and Legendre third.

The men went one-two-three in the 200 butterfly, led by Carlos Hunnicutt, followed by Odendall and Matt Spallas. In the 100 butterfly, Hunnicutt picked up another win with Spallas following in second.

TCU finished first in the men’s 200 medley relay, with Radu Duican, Jakub Swierczynski, Migs Martin, and Jonathan Drewes finishing in 1:34.05. Duican, Swierczynski, and Brewer along with Ross Sullivan closed out the meet with a win in the men’s 400 freestyle relay. Duican picked up two individual wins in addition to the 200 medley relay, winning the 100 and 200 back.

Devin Newton picked up two wins on the day, winning the 100 breast and 200 IM. In the 200 medley relay, Newton, along with Madison Ibrahim, Micaela Roemer, and Claire Munster finished second with a mark of 1:45.04.

Katie Woods finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a mark of 10:39.52. In the 200 butterfly, Bailey Flynn and Elise Forzley finished second in the third with marks of 2:08.22 and 2:08.70 respectively. Chloe Miller finished second in the 200 breast (2:24.17).

Owen Moncino won the men’s three-meter dive with a score of 313.25, while finishing second in the men’s one-meter behind teammate Derek Bowers (262.55). In the women’s one-meter dive, Grace Newell finished second with a score of 243.50.

“Overall we did really well,” head coach Sam Busch said. “We had multiple in-season best times and combined with improving details, it’s a recipe for some good stuff to come at the Texas Invite.”

The divers will compete at the UT Diving Invitational in Austin, Texas, on Nov.16-18, with the Texas Invitational following on Nov.30-Dec.2.
