Horned Frogs Lead After Day One in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – TCU’s swimming and diving teams lead the team standings after the first day of competition at the UIW Christmas Invitational inside the Palo Alto College natatorium.

The TCU men picked up four wins on the day, highlighted by the 400-medley relay squad’s win in the meet’s final event. Laszlo Gyurko, Edgar Crespo, Luiz Azarias and Devin Price turned in a 3:19.98 for top honors.

Gyurko also added an individual win the 100-fly with a 48.59 in the A-final. Azarias and Friedrich Grott also scored in the A-final of the event placing sixth and eighth, respectively.

Sebastian Arispe grabbed his first win in a TCU uniform with a 4:26.61 in the 500-free. He knocked nearly nine seconds off his preliminary time in the finals to win the event. Michael Franz, Cooper Robinson and Ross Van Allen also finished in the top seven of the A-final.

Ricky Bradley added the other win for the Horned Frog men from the 3-meter springboard. He tallied a personal-best 305.90 from the air.

TCU’s women’s squad won twice on the night, with freshman Victoria Thicke-Rattray leading the way for the Frogs. She touched the wall in 2:02.40 in the 200-individual medley, just ahead of freshman teammate Ali Bleasdell, who clocked a 2:04.57.

Katie Lybbert was also a winner for the Frogs from the 1-meter springboard with a 252.85 in the diving well.

TCU returns to action at the UIW Christmas Invitational on Saturday with preliminary swimming in the morning and finals in the evening.
