FORT WORTH – TCU’s swimming and diving programs swept the Big 12 Swimmer and Diver of the Week Awards the conference announced Wednesday. Cooper Robinson won Swimmer of the Week, and Ricky Bradley took Diver of the week on the men’s side. The women’s honorees were Sara Brzozowski for Swimmer of the Week and Katie Lybbert for Diver of the Week.
It was the first Big 12 honor for all four and the first four Big 12 Swimmer of the Week awards won by TCU since joining the conference.
Robinson, a sophomore from Katy, has been a star for the Horned Frogs this season. At the UIW Invite Robinson broke his own school record in the men’s 200 back with a time of 1:43.25. The time was an NCAA ‘B’ cut, the fastest in the Big 12 this season and ranks 14th nationally. He also recorded an NCAA ‘B’ cut in the 100 back in San Antonio, going 48.18. Robinson has nine event wins on the season.
Bradley, a sophomore from Racine, Wis., has become TCU’s most consistent diver on all three boards. Bradley won the 3-meter competition at the UIW Invite and then swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the FIU Winter Invite. His score of 309.67 on 1-meter earned him a spot at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in March in Houston. Bradley now has four event wins on the season.
Brzozowski, a freshman from Brookfield, Wis., also etched her name into the school record books at the UIW Invite. Brzozowski swam her first 1,000 of the 1,650 free in 9:57.98, knocking off Maria Paula Alvarez’s record from 2011. The freshman is also moved up to second in TCU history in the 500 (4:49.50) and 1,650 free (16:40.81) in San Antonio.
Lybbert, a senior from Argyle, had a strong week of 3-meter diving for the Frogs. She had a pair of second place finishes at the UIW Invite and FIU Winter Invite on 3-meter and added third place finishes on platform at the UIW Invite and 1-meter at FIU to her case. Lybbert qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in October at the Rice Invitational.
TCU will return to competition Friday, Jan. 18 with a Big 12 dual meet at West Virginia.
