Trio of Frogs Garner Mountain West Weekly Awards

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU senior R.J. Hesselberg was named Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Week, while the Horned Frogs swept the women's side with sophomore Maria Paula Alvarez earning swimming accolades and junior Jennifer Ferguson receiving diving honors.

Hesselberg, who hails from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, won the one-meter springboard against Centenary College to earn his third-consecutive victory in the event, after registering a season-high mark of 311.55. The senior, who has earned MWC weekly honors for the third time this season and 14th time in his collegiate career, also scored 333.52 on the 3-meter springboard to place second.

Alvarez, a product of Cali, Colombia, took her fourth 500 and 1000-yard freestyle victories of the year in TCU's wins over San Diego State and Centenary College. The sophomore clocked a season-best 4:59.14 in the 500-free and also finished the 1000-free in 10:15.84. Alvarez, who also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.19), swam lead-off leg on the Frogs' 400-yard freestyle relay that won in 3:34.78. This honor marks Alvarez' second of her career.

Ferguson, from Beaconsfield, Quebec, reached new season highs in both springboard events vs. Centenary College and San Diego State. The junior placed first on the three-meter board with 309.97 points, before scoring 277.12 on the one-meter to lead all divers. Ferguson adds her fifth Diver of the Week accolade after earning four in her freshman season.
