TCU's Crespo to compete at NCAA Championships

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore Edgar Crespo has qualified and will compete in the 100-breast at the 2010 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday, March 26, in Columbus, Ohio, at the Bill and Mae McCorkie Aquatic Pavillion on the campus of Ohio State University. Crespo will become the second Horned Frog swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championships since 1997, joining 2008 qualifier, Jonathan Berrettini.

Crespo had a breakout year for the Frogs, winning gold at the 2010 MWC Championships in the 100-breast, while setting a new TCU record time for the event at 53.32. Crespo was also a member of the Frogs' 200-medley relay squad that earned silver accolades and set a new TCU record on opening night of the Championships. The sophomore earned all-MWC honors for his finishes in the 100-breast, 100-fly and as a member of the Frogs’ 200-medley relay squad.

Including his 100-breast win at the MWC Championships, Crespo paced the Frogs with 14 total wins this season, going undefeated in the 100- and 200-breast events. The Panama City, Panama native was also two-time MWC Swimmer of the Week award winner. At the international level, Crespo also earned a pair of medals at the 2009 Bolivarian Games, taking gold in the 50-breast and silver standards in the 100-breast.
