FORT WORTH, Texas - Four TCU swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Honorable Mention Scholar All-America team. The Horned Frogs' women's team was distinguished as a Scholar All-America team along with posting the best GPA in the Big 12 for Spring 2013.
Three members of the TCU women's team earned individual honors in Gabi Korac, Sabine Rasch and Katie Scarsella. Sebastian Arispe of the TCU men's team also earned individual honors.
The Horned Frogs' women's team posted a team GPA of 3.29 for the Spring 2013 semester, ranking as the best in the Big 12 in its debut season. The strength of the TCU women in the classroom was distinguished throughout the year with 13 members of the squad earning Academic All-Big 12 honors and an additional seven freshmen women being named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
Korac is TCU's school record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, re-setting her own school records last season for the Horned Frogs. An All-Big 12 honoree in both breaststroke events, she was also a member of TCU's school record setting 200 and 400 medley relay squads. She is an Interior Design major.
Rasch closed out her TCU career with three performances that earned All-Big 12 distinction and as part of two school record groups at the Big 12 Championships. The German and TCU's Most Outstanding Swimmer for 2012-13 finished fourth in the 50 and 100 free at the conference championships and was part of the runners-up in the 200 free relay. She leaves TCU with seven school records. Rasch was the recipient of TCU Athletics' Dutch Meyer Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She was a May graduate of TCU with a degree in Marketing.
Scarsella had a big finish to her TCU career, taking over a second off the school record in the 200 free en route to finishing sixth at the Big 12 Championships. The 2012-13 TCU Swimming MVP, Scarsella also earned All-Big 12 honors in the 200 free relay and was a member of the school record-breaking squad in the 800 free relay. She is a Child Development major.
Arispe continues to be an important member of the TCU men's distance squad, as he earned All-Big 12 honors in the 1,650 free. TCU's school record holder in the 500 free and as part of the 800 free relay, the Peruvian was TCU's team leader in the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 free in 2012-13. Arispe is a Marketing major.
The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
The Honorable Mention Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard, but have not qualified to compete in their respective national championship. Divers qualify by competing at their respective championship qualifying meets. The award is presented in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).
