For the first installation of the “Out of the Water” series, GoFrogs.com caught up with 500-, 1000- and 1650-free school record holder senior Maria Paula Alvarez to preview the season. The Cali, Colombia, native is one of six seniors on the women’s side for the Horned Frogs.

The TCU swimming and diving teams kicked off their fall practices this week at the TCU University Rec Center Natatorium. The women’s team kicks off its season Oct. 8 at the North Texas Relays, while the men’s team begin its MWC regular season title defense Oct. 22 when Air Force visits the URC.

GoFrogs: What are your thoughts heading into your senior year?

Alvarez: “I think we’re going to have a pretty good team this year. The freshmen look really fast and we’re better as a team now.”

GoFrogs:
What is it like having a senior leadership role on this team?

Alvarez: “The six of us are all looking forward to being seen as leaders and working hard for each other.”

GoFrogs: What are your expectations for the year?

Alvarez: “I think we can win all of our dual meets and do a really good job at conference.”

GoFrogs: How have you enjoyed your time at TCU?

Alvarez: “I have loved it. I’m really sad this is my senior year, but I’m going to do my best.”

GoFrogs: What has been your best memory during your time at TCU?

Alvarez: “I loved every single moment I’ve spent with my team during training trips. It’s been a thrill setting three school records and having fun with everyone.”
