Oct. 16, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s swimming and diving team opens its 2013-14 season on Thursday, Oct. 17 against Kansas. The Big 12 dual meet will be held in the TCU Recreation Center Natatorium, beginning at 1 p.m.
The Horned Frogs return 19 swimmers and three divers from the 2012-13 team that finished third at the Big 12 Championships, only two points behind second-place finisher West Virginia. TCU also adds five freshman swimmers, a freshman diver and a pair of transfers.
Junior Ali Bleasdell is among the leading returners after earning All-Big 12 honors in the 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM last season, making her one of the highest scoring individuals at the conference championships. Bleasdell set the school records in both the 200 and 400 IM during the 2012-13 season. Sophomore Sara Brzozowski also returns after an outstanding freshman campaign during which she set the TCU records in the 1,000 and 1,650 free while earning All-Big 12 honors in the 500 and 1,650 free. Other returning school record holders for the women include junior Ashley Alspaugh, who holds the school record in the 100 back and senior Gabi Korac, who set the standard in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.
The TCU women will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 as part of a full team meet against North Carolina. Both the men’s and women’s teams host the Tarheels at 12 p.m. in the TCU Recreation Center Natatorium.
